Infant Baptism

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Baptism is the best decision that you can make for your child. Thank you for choosing our parish. We will help make this a special occasion between God and your family.

When to Baptize

The Church asks that children be baptized within the first few weeks after birth.

English Baptisms
Every fourth Saturday of the month at 9:00 a.m.

Spanish Baptisms
The first three Saturdays of the month at 9:00 a.m.

Before You Begin

This page is for Infant Baptism, for newborns through children age 6.

Your child must be 6 years old or younger on the day of Baptism.
If your child will be 7 years old or older, this is not the correct process.
Children age 7 and older must complete two years of preparation before Baptism.
If your child is age 7 or older, please leave your name and phone number with the parish office so that we can contact you when it is time to register.
If your child is age 7 or older and has an intellectual disability, please make an appointment with the pastor.

Parents or Legal Guardians

One parent or legal guardian must be present to register the child and present the child for Baptism.
There are no requirements that the parents be married or that they have already received all of their sacraments.

Godparents

Godparents are to be one man and one woman who can help lead the child in the Catholic faith.

We require that godparents have received:

Baptism
First Holy Communion
Confirmation

If a godparent is living with a romantic partner, that person must be married in the Church.

If a godparent is missing sacraments but wants to receive them, that person should make an appointment with the pastor. Permission may be given for that person to serve as a godparent if he or she registers and begins the process.

Godparents must be:

one biological man and one biological woman, or
one biological man, or
one biological woman, or
none

If you cannot find a godparent, please contact the parish office. The child may still be baptized.

Preparation for Another Parish

If you are taking this class for another parish, the cost for proof of preparation is $20 per person.

Step 1: Choose the Godparents and Complete the Preparation

Before coming to the parish office, the required preparation must be completed.

The following people must complete the baptism preparation:

the parent or legal guardian
each godparent

Everyone may watch the videos together or separately, but each person must complete his or her own questionnaires.

You may watch the videos with your spouse, but each person must submit a separate form.

Complete the Baptism Class

Each person must complete Parts A, B, and C.

Step 2: Call the Office

After everyone has completed the preparation, call the parish office to make sure we have received the questionnaires before coming in to register. 831-724-1317

Step 3: Come to the Office to Register

After the office has verified your preparation by phone, please come to the parish office to register.

Please bring:

your child’s birth certificate
the $50 donation
the names of the parent(s), legal guardian(s), and godparent(s)

The child’s name will be entered exactly as it appears on the birth certificate.

The $50 donation may be paid in cash or by credit card.

If your family is unable to make the donation, please make an appointment with the pastor.

Step 4: Choose a Date

Once the office verifies that the preparation has been completed, the office will help you choose a baptism date.

English Baptisms
Every fourth Saturday of the month at 9:00 a.m.

Spanish Baptisms
The first three Saturdays of the month at 9:00 a.m.

Step 5: Prepare for the Day of Baptism

On the day of Baptism, you may wish to bring:

white clothing for the child
a baptismal candle
a small cloth towel to wipe the oil from the child’s head
a small bottle if you would like to take home some baptismal water

A professional photographer is usually present at 8:30 a.m. and offers photos for reasonable prices.

At the end of the Baptism celebration, the custom of the Presentation of the Child to God will take place.

Baptism of Children

Children age 7 through 8th grade should enroll in Faith Formation in July of every year for two years of preparation. Please signup to receive a reminder.

Baptism of Youth

Youth past 8th grade should enroll in Confirmation preparation in July every year for two years of preparation. Please signup to receive a reminder.

Baptism of Adults

Anyone above high school age should enroll in RCIA / Adult Confirmation preparation in June every year for one year of preparation. Please signup to receive a reminder.
- If you are an adult please request an appointment with the priest to receive support and encouragement while waiting for classes to start. Youth and children may request this as well.
